“Those who contemplate the beauty of the earth find reserves of strength that will endure as long as life lasts.”
― Rachel Carson, The Sense of Wonder
Academically trained in both visual arts and biology, Abby Hann’s artistic practice is inspired by the natural world. Growing up on the island of Newfoundland fostered her fascination with plants and animals from a young age and lead her first to study conservation biology. Hann worked in wild places catching various species of seabirds, hares, and fish. She discovered printmaking while attending the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design and now works mainly with linocut as her medium. Drawing from her knowledge of biology and experiences outdoors, her prints depict ecological interactions between plants, animals, and the landscape.
Hann is certified as a visual arts and science school teacher and has taught in Northern Canada and South Africa. She teaches private art workshops to all ages upon request. Through her fine art, design, and educational work, Hann aims to communicate the science and beauty of the natural world to her audience and students.
